Club Night

Club Night

The Club fences in the sports hall of Reading Blue Coat School, in Sonning (just outside Reading). The venue is light and airy and has good changing rooms and showers. We fence two evenings a week from 19:30 to 22:00 with our junior members normally leaving between 20:30 and 21:00.

Monday

On Mondays one half of the hall is used to run our popular beginners course. The other half is used for free fencing (usually at least 7 pistes) and individual lessons from the coaches.

Wednesday

We have the whole of the hall (usually at least 8 pistes), with individual lessons also in progress. In the second and third full week of every calendar month, we run improver classes (see below for details).

Monthly format

RFC has a sound structure in place, which encourages members to not only improve but also socialise. In each calendar month we have three events:

Club competition

Our highly popular monthly club competition nights take place in the second week of every month. The competition is run on a poule unique format with separate competitions for senior (any one who uses a size 5 weapon) and younger (anyone who uses a size 3 or below weapon) fencers. The person with the most victories at the end of each month is the winner of that months competition with the results counting towards the annual award of the Chris Readings (Size 3 weapon) and Kevin Griffiths (senior) club trophies.

The competition is open (for free!) to any épéeist who would like to come along and provides a strong night of competitive fencing in a friendly atmosphere.
