Advanced notice that our AGM will take place on the evening of Wednesday 13 July. We will circulate an agenda nearer the time and as ever we encourage nominations for new committee members.

Southern Regions Senior Championships

Wed 25 May 2022

After a Covid-enforced hiatus one of the most ‘local’ fencing competitions is making its return. For anyone who’s not competed yet these are very friendly and a great opportunity to meet (and test your skills against) other fencers from across the Region. The competition is open to anyone 13+ and will take place at St. Gabriel’s School in Newbury on 3 July. Entry is via the Sport80 website - you’ll need to be a member of British Fencing to compete and if you have any questions about competing please let us know!

Lift, please?!

Wed 18 May 2022

We have had two separate requests recently from fencers wanting to get to the Club to train but are having difficulties with transport.

One is living in Basingstoke but can get the train into Reading rail station; the other lives in west Reading. Both fencers are male and aged over 18.

If anyone is able to offer an occasional lift then please let us know by email so we can put them in touch with you!

Save the Date: Southern Region Senior Champ's

Sun 15 May 2022

Venue is TBC (likely to be Newbury) but the Southern Region Senior Championships will be taking place on Sunday 3 July.

For those who have never competed before these events are very friendly and a great opportunity to meet new fencers and test yourselves at the same time.

Check out Southern’s website for further details.

Winton Cup

Sun 15 May 2022

Steve Bateman is Southern Region’s Winton Cup Captain. For those unfamiliar with the Winton Cup format it is a long weekend of fencing, with each individual team (ME, WE, MS, WS, MF and WF) getting between 8-11 matches spread over both the Saturday and Sunday.

The event will be held in Nottingham in early July. If you would like to be considered for selection please speak to Steve directly at the Club or email us and we will let him know.

Calendar Updates

Tue 10 May 2022

We were informed this afternoon that unfortunately the sports hall at RBCS will be unavailable for use from 16 May - i.e. next week - until 29 June.

With the exception of 23 May we do have Way Hall available throughout that period, as well as access to the equipment cupboards.

The unavailability of the main hall causes us some significant issues with the scheduling of our Monday evening beginner classes. The plan therefore is for us to hire the MUGA (Multi Use Ground Area) outside, in addition to Way Hall: we will run the beginner lessons outside and hold the regular club sessions as normal in Way Hall. If it rains on those evenings, however, whilst the juniors will be able to meet (Way Hall) from 6:30-7:30pm the remainder of the evening will be cancelled.

In short: please check the website regularly (and the weather!).

We apologise for the inconvenience.
